Current IssuesSpeeding It is evident that the majority of the motorists involved are only passing through the village probably on their way to or from work in Corby. There are, however,a small number who are residents of the village and we would ask that all residents moderate their speed through the village and in fact any other village through which they pass. We have now collected sufficient pledges from residents to proceed with the scheme. As a consequence, a meeting with a representative from the Leicestershire Speedwatch Scheme in November at which all points in the village for carrying out checks were identified. We was advised that the earliest date that we can be incorporated into the scheme is May of next year. Whilst this is disappointing it is clear that it would be impractical to carry out checks during the winter months. Once a date is fixed, the Speedwatch people will install monitoring devices to record speeds both before and after the checks. One week before the checks start, a training session will be held in the evening, probably in the village hall. All volunteers will be invited to attend. We will have the camera for four weeks, and it will be necessary for the volunteers to work in pairs, one to hold the camera, the other to record the registration numbers (it has to be a minimum of two people but could be more). We will have the facility to have the camera back at monthly intervals to carry out further checks if we so wish. |
