NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Your neighbourhood watch co-ordinator is Roger Edwards at 76 Main Street, tel.01572 822054
Neighbourhood Watch Notes as at 15 November 2010
a. Several villagers have experienced cold telephone calls on a variety of matters such as computer problems, burglar alarm systems and much more. Callers are persistent and persuasive. Do not give them information that compromises your security. Say no and put the phone down. If you are really concerned call Leicestershire Police.
b. Oakham Police Station has some reasonably-priced security items. Details, price lists and order forms available from Roger.
c. See below for details of Lyddington's telephone relay system to warn villagers of suspicious activity in the area. If you would like to join please contact Roger.
Telephone Relay System
45 households have agreed to participate in the telephone relay system. This should be sufficient to send a ripple through the village if matters of concern or security are in evidence. The complete list of telephone numbers is held by those who have agreed to take part in the scheme. Anyone else with concerns may ring Roger Edwards on 822054, Joan Fletcher on 821213, or one of the key contacts in the document below.

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH
Please be vigilant-especially during the day when most crimes have been occurring. Remember to check all doors and windows before turning in for the night, not forgetting outbuildings.
Be very cautious of cold calls. One Lyddington resident had a call from St. John’s Crime Prevention Association and when told we had a Neighbourhood Watch Scheme the ‘young gentleman’ ended the conversation.
Be aware of bogus callers. If you are suspicious do not let them in, however urgent their requests. Ask for identification. Do not be distracted. If the suspect caller says he is from one of the services, close the door and check that their representative is in your area. This may sound like commonsense, but we can all be hoodwinked sometimes.
A variety of valuable garden ornaments and furniture have been stolen. Be aware. Anchor if possible.
Try to make your house look occupied at all times.
